Vita

Sophia Maeno, a mezzo-soprano born in Schwerin, Germany, studied singing in Dresden, Rome and Karlsruhe. Study visits took her to Italy, Israel and the USA. She completed her studies with Brigitta Seidler-Winkler from whom she continues to be vocally supervised. She is a prizewinner of the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation "Live Music Now" and the Richard Wagner Association. Already during her studies she began a collaboration with the Stuttgart "SWR-Vokalensemble", of which she was a permanent member from 2012-14.

In 2014 she was engaged as a soloist at the Staatstheater Schwerin. Here she appeared as Olga (Onegin), Countess (Der Wildschütz), Page (Salome), Flora (Traviata) and Second Lady (Zauberflöte).

A freelancer since 2016 Sophia Maeno’s engagements led her to the Hamburger Alleetheater for the role of Romeo (I Capuleti e I Montecchi), as well as to the Theater Erfurt for Pisandro and Giove (Ritorno d'Ulisse). At the Landestheater Neustrelitz she sang Arsamene (Xerxes) and appeared simultaneously at the Staatstheater Schwerin in the roles of Mrs. Sedley (Peter Grimes) and Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel).

Since the 2017/18 season she has been a resident guest in Chemnitz and can be heard as Cherubino (Figaro), Goffredo (Rinaldo), Floßhilde (Rheingold/Götterdämmerung), Orlowsky (Fledermaus), Octavian (Rosenkavalier), Marta/Pantalis (Mefistofeles) and Carmen (Carmen).
